India's middle order batsman Virat Kohli gained wholesome appreciation for his hundred on Day One of the opening Test against South Africa here yesterday.
Sunil Gavaskar was most emphatic when Kohli reached his hundred in the final session of play at the Wanderers.

“Has he softened up?” Gavaskar asked aloud thrice, referring to the South African Press’ view that Kohli had been softened up by the Proteas in the one-day series where he totalled 31 in two innings.
“I will definitely say something when an Indian player is attacked unnecessarily. Through this hundred, he sent a message to the SA camp that India will do well. It was a great innings,” said Gavaskar.
Ravi Shastri said that India would be boosted tremendously after this century effort from Kohli. “By this century, India will gain a lot of confidence in the next nine days of Test cricket,” remarked Shastri.
Meanwhile, former South Africa captain and ace fast bowler Shaun Pollock wanted to know whether any other Indian in the current squad had scored a hundred abroad.u00a0
