Queering the pitch for his party, Shiv Sena MLA Vijay Shivtare, who represents the Purandar assembly constituency, claimed that it was not his desire to participate in the upcoming general elections from Baramati, but his followers were insisting that he take on NCP leader Supriya Sule.
Disappointed with decision of the senior leadership of the Mahayuti to field Rashtriya Samaj Party’s Mahadev Jankar from Baramati, Shivtare had earlier said that the BJP’s senior leadership had ‘fixed the game against him’ by not giving him a ticket.
On this matter, Shivtare made a U-turn yesterday and said that the media had twisted his statement, and that he would support and campaign for Jankar in the upcoming elections.
“When five political parties with different ideologies come together to make an alliance, such compromises are very common. During seat sharing in Mahayuti, Madha seat that was a bastion of Jankar, was given to Swabhimani Shetkari Sanghatana’s Sadabhau Khot. It was, therefore, obvious that Jankar was offered Baramati constituency to fight the LS election,” he said.
