Suspected Congress workers beat up BMC officials, vandalise office

Several staffers of the BMC's H/East ward office were allegedly beaten up by a mob of suspected Congress workers on Monday afternoon. The civic body has lodged a complaint against the accused with the Vakola police station.

On Monday, around 1.30 pm, a mob of 25-30 people entered the ward office and started vandalising office furniture and abusing the staff. The mob targeted the assistant engineer (maintenance) and other members for allegedly using abusive language towards Congress' municipal councilor Priyatama Sawant from ward no 90 in Bandra East. The drama continued for half hour.

After the mob had left, the police arrived and did a panchnama and registered a complaint. Staffers are now in fear of a repeat and want the accused to be arrested immediately.
