French skyscraper climber was to display his prowess in city 6 months ago, but swine flu scare delayed visit

He's scaled skyscrapers across the world with ease and alacrity. Now, French skyscraper climber, Alain Robert (46), better known as 'spiderman' is in Pune to display his daredevil stunts.

Scheduled to arrive much earlier, Robert had to postpone his plans due to the swine flu scare.

"I wanted to come to this city six months back. But I postponed it because I read news about swine flu panic in Pune," Robert said, while sipping champagne at the amphitheatre of Amanora Park where he climbed a 100-metre newly constructed building billed as the tallest in Pune.

"We had got in touch with Robert about a year ago. Back then, our plan was to call him six months ago when another building was ready," said Amanora Park's chief operating officer J K Bhosale. "But we were apprehensive and so was Robert, so we decided to invite him at a later date."

Robert is especially happy that the Pune police instantly granted permission to the organisers to invite him.
"In other countries, I had to spend time in the police lock-up like a criminal. In fact, I have set a Limca record of being arrested in 40 countries for pursuing my passion."

So does Robert plan to take his passion for heights any further? "I am keen to climb atop the world's tallest buildingu00a0the Dubai Burj," he says. "But it will not be possible this year as the temperature there is very high.

I will have to wait for the winter to set in there."
