“In my 36 years in the industry, I received many offers to compose music for films. But I accepted this one as it involved Majaz Lakhnawi, a respected and renowned poet. He didn’t get his due in his lifetime or even after his death. He died at the age of 44 in 1955. Not many know that he was (lyricist) Javed Akhtar’s maternal uncle,” says Aziz.
The soundtrack of the movie comprises 11 songs, most of which are ghazals. “Sonu Nigam has sung a Sufiana track called Allah O Ghani in the film. Alka Yagnik has also crooned one,” reveals Aziz, adding that working on the movie’s soundtrack was difficult. “Majaz’s poetry has a flow and musicality that is rare. It’s not easy to compose his ghazals and nazms,” he explains.
