Paying the price: The water tanker’s driver did not stop at the signal and was also driving on the wrong side of the road. He claims that his brakes were not working and he lost control

The accident occurred at 1.30 pm on Thursday killing Sarika and leaving her daughter and husband critically injured. The two survivors are admitted in Criticare Hospital, Airoli.

The water tanker’s driver Sanjay Dadarao Rahane (27) did not stop at the signal and was also driving on the wrong side of the road. He claims that the tanker’s brakes were not working and he lost control. An investigation by the Rabale police is on to verify if this is true.

“The water tanker was going towards Mulund from Rabale. When the tanker reached sector 8 Airoli the driver skipped the signal and was on the wrong side of the road when it hit the bike. Sarika fell off the bike and was run over by the tanker.

She died on the spot. The driver of the water tanker has been charged under Indian Penal Code (IPC) section 279 for rash driving, section 337 and 338 for causing grievous hurt, section 184 of Motor Vehicles Act and section 304 for culpable homicide,” said police inspector EPI Karande of Rabale Police Station.u00a0
