In the first singles encounter of the pre-quarter-final against Aditya Birla World Academy (Tardeo), Tanmay cruised to a 11-3, 11-8, 11-4 win over Kishil Shah. However, teammate Parthav Kelkar lost his singles encounter 8-11, 11-7, 1-11, 11-5, 8-11 to Aakash Mody.u00a0

Tanmay, ranked seventh in the state U-14 list, then paired up with Parthav to beat Aditya Birla’s Shainil Kothari and D Yash 11-2, 11-9, 11-8. With the score reading 2-1 in his school’s favour, Tanmay then won the crucial fourth encounter against Aakash 4-11, 14-12, 11-8, 17-15 to give his school a 3-1 victory.

Earlier, in a second round match the Dadar school beat Lilavatibai Podar (Santacruz) 3-2.

IES VN Sule Guruji (Dadar) recently won the District Sports
Office (DSO) zonal team championship, and Tanmay is hopeful his school can repeat their success at the MSSA tournament.

“Last season we missed a podium finish and came fourth at the MSSA event. This year though we hope to better that performance. I am glad I won the crucial singles tie against Aakash after losing the first game 4-11,” Tanmay said. u00a0
