Tata's first venture into the premium space didn't garner quite as many numbers as they were hoping. The automaker is looking at turning things around with the Hexa, and their formula seems to be simple - Turn the heat up a notch. Reports suggest that the crossover will grace Tata showroom floors from the second week of January. Details about bookings remain unknown at the moment but are expected to start around the same time. Let's get a quick recap of what's on offer:

The Hexa looks imposing and intimidating and houses some thoroughly likeable design elements. Tata has opted for the quintessential crossover look, and have slapped on some matte-black cladding around the lower third of the car. There's some nice contrast with dull-silver accents too, that look nice.

There are plenty of features on offer as well. Features on the top-spec Hexa will include climate control, a 10-speaker Harman audio system, projector headlamps and 19-inch alloy wheels as well. Tata will also be decking the Hexa with a 4x4 system, as well as 'Super Drive' modes, that lets the driver select between Auto, Comfort, Dynamic and Rough-Road depending on the terrain/need.

Powering the Hexa is the 2.2-litre Varicor400 motor paired with a 6-speed manual transmission, that we've seen in the updated Safari Storme. Check out the review to know how the engine-gearbox combo perform. A conventional 6-speed automatic transmission will also be in the offing. With 156PS and 400Nm on tap, the Hexa does look like a promising package, performance-wise.

Rivals, although not direct, include the Toyota Innova Crysta and the Mahindra XUV500. Tata will be looking at undercutting its rivals substantially, to gain a foothold in the segment.
