A 32-year-old teacher was arrested on Saturday for allegedly abducting a 15-year-old girl and raping her after promising marriage.

The teacher has been identified as Balu Sukhdev Dhanwe, a native of Kalsambar village in Beed district. He is already married and had two kids.

V N Khilare, assistant sub inspector of the Lonikand police station said that the girl was a student of class IX and studied in the same school where Dhanwe used to teach. “The accused used to call her often and make promises of marrying her. On May 15, he and his friend Arun Dolas convinced the girl to run away with them. Dhanwe took the girl to different places in Manchar and Mumbai and raped her,” said Khilare.

Following the kidnapping, the girl’s father registered a complaint following which the police swung into action.

On last Saturday, both were traced to Maval region where Dhanwe was arrested and the girl was rescued.

Police said that when the incident took place, the Dhanwe’s wife and kids were at their home town and he was alone in Pune. “As far as the role of Dolas is concerned, he had only helped in making sure that the girl went with Dhanwe.”

Police have charged Dhanwe with Section 363 (kidnapping), 376 (rape) and 34 (common intention) of IPC and Dolas is arrested under Section 363 (kidnapping) and 34 (common intention) of IPC.

A holiday magistrate court on Sunday remanded Dhanwe to police custody till May 30.u00a0
