Unrest: The PTA members of the Seventh Day Adventist School have been unhappy with the functioning of the school management and say their complaints have been falling on deaf ears

They say that many teachers employed by the school are untrained and unskilled and some have only passed Std XII. Some parents said the principal is not ready to disclose the qualification of any teacher to PTA members.

Kiran Walunj, a member of the PTA, said, “There is no permanent staff and the teachers change after every three to four months. The school is not ready to disclose how the fees are being used. They charge registration fees every year. As per a government resolution, the registration fee is a one-time fee. The school is also charging Rs 120 every quarter to employ the services of a call centre to send SMSes, which is expensive.”

Santosh Yadav, vice president of the PTA, said, “The school also charges Rs 450 as interactive fees every quarter. They also charge extra lab fees, which is supposed to be included in the term fee. The principal has been arranging for tuitions in school premises for and charging Rs 500 to Rs 1,500 extra. There is no receipt provided for this.”

A few parents also said that an SMS was sent to all parents of Std X students, saying that it is mandatory to pay Rs 500 for the marksheet, transfer certificate and migration certificate.

As per a circular received on April 9 from the school the late fee is Rs 50. But as per a government resolution, it should not more than Rs 5. The circular that was received on April 9, 2013, said that the school will display the new sample uniform, but till date this has not been done.

Raju Patil, a PTA member, said, “There is no annual meeting held for the last two years. No PTA meeting was held for 2012-13. We also complained to the education department of NMMC, state department and Sanpada police station but have not got a satisfactory response.”

Speaking to MiD DAY, u00a0J Peter, principal of the school, said, “These are all false allegations and if this is true I am ready to face the brunt. Officials from the education department of NMMC visited our school and as they did not find any problems.”

He added, “Had the school had under-qualified teachers, our students would not have obtained such good results from our students in the board examinations that were conducted.” u00a0
