Tech: Samsung launches Galaxy Note 7 with iris scanner, Gear VR headset

South Korean tech giant Samsung unveiled it's Galaxy Note 7 smartphone, which will be available for purchase from August 19. The Samsung Galaxy Note 7 is the first smartphone from the company to feature an iris scanner, which was previously introduced in the Galaxy Tab Iris tablet

South Korean tech giant Samsung unveiled it's Galaxy Note 7 smartphone, which will be available for purchase from August 19. The Samsung Galaxy Note 7 is the first smartphone from the company to feature an iris scanner, which was previously introduced in the Galaxy Tab Iris tablet.

The launch took place at Samsung's Galaxy Note Unpacked 2016, which was simultaneously held at New York, London, and Rio de Janeiro. According to earlier reports, Samsung plans on launching the Galaxy Note 7 in India on August 11.


The dust, water-resistant and IP68-certified Samsung Galaxy Note 7 comes equipped with iris and fingerprint scanning, which are a part of the Samsung Knox security suite along with a Secure Folder feature, an upgrade from the Private Mode, that ensures your private data safety.

Although no pricing information or launch market details are unavailable at the time, the Samsung Galaxy Note 7, which will come in Blue Coral, Gold Platinum, Silver Titanium and Black Onyx colours will come bundled with several accessories, namely a S View Standing Cover, IP68 water resistant Backpack for on-the-go charging, an upgraded S Pen, a Game Pack, ability to authenticate purchases on Samsung Pay thanks to the iris scanner, S Health 5.0 among other things, which will be available at the launch.

Furthermore, the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 can be paired with the Gear 360 camera to work on 360-degree images and videos.

Samsung also unveiled the Gear VR for Galaxy Note 7 headset with USB Type-C and Micro-USB connections, which is compatible wild older Samsung phones such as, the Galaxy S7, Galaxy S7 Edge, Galaxy Note 5, Galaxy S6, Galaxy S6 Edge, and Galaxy S6 Edge+.
