A techie employed with a private company attempted suicide over family issues at his residence in Narayan Complex in Sukhsagar Nagar on Monday night. But Santosh Pawar (37) was saved by two policemen from Bharti Vidyapeeth police station who were patrolling the area.
Police Constable Vijay Ghisare along with his colleague Shirish Shinde managed to save Pawar's life. "We broke the door of his room with an LPG cylinder. He was hanging in the bedroom," said Ghisare. "We realised that his pulse was on and could be saved, so we rushed him to a nearby hospital."
Doctors of Rao hospital where Pawar was admitted said that his condition is stable and he is recuperating. The incident has been registered at Bharti Vidyapeeth police station.
According to the police, Pawar had messaged his uncle on Monday night that he was going to end his life. Disturbed by this, Pawar's uncle immediately informed his mother. That's when she found that Pawar's bedroom door was locked from inside.
"His mother panicked and cried for help after which I ran out to look for someone," said Sachin Kapale, Pawar's neighbour who brought the incident to the notice of the constables.
"Pawar used a nylon rope to hang himself to the ceiling fan," said Shinde.
Pawar allegedly took the extreme step because of some family issues, but his relatives refused to comment. Pawar is married and has a two-and-half-years old daughter. His wife was at her parents' place at the time of the incident.
