The Khed police arrested two suspects from the village, while one suspect was said to be missing. The deceased was identified as Madhuri Devram Kedari. According to the police, she went missing on Monday, when she was on her way to college around 7 am.

The next day, her father lodged a missing complaint. The suspects arrested yesterday morning were identified as Anil Baburam Kedari and Anil Raghunath Chavan.

The police said the suspects had accompanied the villagers when they had gone looking for the girl. The police said Anil Kedari had even asked a woman to avoid going to a spot where Madhuri's body was later found, saying the place was unapproachable by road.

When villagers finally recovered Madhuri's decomposed body, they remembered that Anil Kedari had said he had checked the area and had claimed that nothing had been found there. In addition to this, the father of the deceased informed the police that his daughter had earlier complained about eve-teasing by Anil Kedari.

All this prompted the police to pick up the two Anils for questioning.u00a0 "The two have confessed to the crime and have said that they murdered her after they noticed a car approaching the road," DYSP Bharat Patil said.

Patil said Anil Kedari had separated from his wife a few years ago, while the other arrested man had a track record of eve-teasing. Though the police were yet to confirm rape, they said they had a strong suspicion that the motive for the murder was prevention of the discovery of rape.
