Tragedy was evaded on Thursday evening after a three-year-old girl was rescued by her parents and grandmother after their 14-year-old neighbour allegedly accosted the child and hid her inside his house. According to police officials, the 14-year-old boy is a student of class nine. He and the victim’s family live in the jurisdiction of Mulund police station.
“The accused allegedly accosted the girl and hid her at his place while she was playing on the veranda. When the kid didn’t turn up for a long time, her grandmother got worried and started searching for her. In fact, she even asked the accused regarding the girl’s whereabouts but the boy feigned ignorance. However, the grandmother was suspicious,” said an officer from Mulund police station. After a futile search, the grandmother called the kid’s parents and expressed her suspicion about the boy. Following a search, they found the child at his house.
“The parents and grandmother reported the matter to us. Based on the grandmother’s allegations, we have registered a molestation case against the 14-year-old boy. She feels if he was innocent, then he wouldn’t have lied to her,” added the officer. The accused has been booked under section 354 (assault or criminal force to woman with intent) of the Indian Penal Code. He was produced in court on Saturday and has been remanded to police custody.
