Ye Maaya Chesave starred Nagarjuna's son (from his first marriage) Naga Chaitanya, and was directed by Gautham Menon. Everyone from Rakesh Roshan, Balaji to Vashu Bhagnani were trying to buy the rights to remake the film in Hindi.

Bilingual project
Menon says, "Ye Maaya Chesave was a bilingual made in Tamil and Telegu. In Telegu it was called Ye Maaya Chesave while the Tamil version was called Vinnaithaandi Varuvaayaa. The Tamil rights have been picked up by the Hindujas and I will be directing the Hindi version too. The cast has not been decided though we are considering signing Prateik Babbar and AR Rehman will score the music."

Trisha who had acted in the Tamil version will be the heroine for the Hindi version too.

Menon, who had earlier directed the Madhavan-Dia Mirza-Saif starrer, Rehna Hai Tere Dil Mein, says, "We have been showing Vinnaithaandi Varuvaayaa to many people in B-Town for some time and are liking the film. It's a big hit in the south and my partner SK Artists Infotainment and I jointly share the Tamil film rights. I have written this urban love story."

The Telegu rights of Ye Maaya Vesave are with producer Manjula. There was news of some money problems between them. Menon clarifies, "The Telegu producer couldn't sell the film as the price was too high and they had given me an advance against the profit as my remuneration but later wanted me to return the money. I returned the money and won't work with them again in the future."
