While many actresses from the West take lessons in Hindi to explore a career in Bollywood, Tena Desai is all set to reverse the trend. Word is that the actress is brushing up her American English accent in order to attract more work from Hollywood. Tena says, “Like in India, various American regions have their own accents. If you are familiar with the basic accent then it does help to get work.”
The actress has already finished a few sessions with her Indian tutor. “My tutor has lived across 10 different countries and is well versed with the language. She trains people at call centres here.” The actress will start her second session soon.
Incidentally for her first Hollywood project The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel, Tena played an Indian character and so didn’t have any trouble with her language. However, her co-star Dev Patel had a tough time learning the Indian accent. Tena jokes, “Dev used to struggle with the language because he had a heavy British accent. It was fun to watch him!”
