IB warns hotels and CWG venue are at risk
In a fresh intelligence input to Delhi police, security agencies, primarily the Intelligence Bureau (IB), have said that Hotel Ashok, Samrat Hotel and Siri Fort Stadium are on the radar of terrorists.
IB sources told MiD DAY that an input was sent on Sunday to the Delhi police about a possible threat to hotels across the city during CWG - particularly Ashok and Samrat.
"According to an interception of terrorists belonging to a militant organisation, there is a possible threat to the hotels," sources in the intelligence bureau said.
Following this, Delhi police's Special Cell that deals with terrorist-related activities in the city, has come into action and its men have been deployed at hotels across the Capital.
"We had to make some alterations to the duty arrangements of our personnel after receiving this input and we have now deployed more Special Cell men at places, which have been declared vulnerable by the Intelligence Bureau on Sunday," a senior Delhi police officer said.
The city is already on alert in view of the ongoing Commonwealth Games and now more personnel have been mobilised to thwart any untoward incident. "We don't want to leave anything to chance. Hence we are taking every input seriously and are coordinating with the IB," Delhi police officers said.
Besides, activities at the Multi-Agency Centre (MAC) situated inside the Delhi police headquarters at ITO have also turned hectic after the intelligence was received.
MAC is meant for sharing of intelligence inputs amongst states. It was constituted after the Mumbai 26/11 attacks which had exposed the failings of the country's intelligence set-up.
When probed a Delhi police spokesperson refused to comment on the matter.
