The city police are on the look out for a hoax caller who is giving them nightmares. The caller, who identifies himself as Karan, has, according to the police, been making calls from a stolen mobile phone.

The first of many calls made by 'Karan' were received by the city control room from a mobile phone on Thursday at 3.54 pm.

"I saw three bearded men planting bombs at Cubbon Park. They noticed me looking and rushed towards me. I managed to save myself by running as fast as I could till I lost them.

Constable KN Netravathi, who received the call, advised him to rush to the local police station. She also informed her senior, Sub-Inspector C Chandrashekhar, who is in-charge of the control room desk.

Chandrashekhar in-turn alerted Cubbon Park police and shared the mobile number from which 'Karan' had called.

The Cubbon Park police swung into action and rushed to the park and combed the area but found neither 'Karan' nor the bomb or the bearded men who, according to him planted the bombs.

A few hours later, the Vidhana Soudha police received another call from 'Karan' from the same number. They were warned of yet another bomb that had been planted near the Vidhana Soudha.

The theft

The police, who had by now realised that Karan was a prankster, approached the service provider and found that the phone belonged to a girl, who works in a private firm.

She told the police that it had been stolen on Wednesday.

The Cubbon Park police are understandably furious and looking for the prankster who continues to be at large.

"Though we more often that not know that a lot of such calls are hoax, we respond to them because and step out to check because we can't take any chances.

Unfortunately, we lose a lot of time and energy in the process," said an officer from the Cubbon Park police station.

PSI C Chandrashekhar of the control room desk and senior officers of the Cubbon Park police station refused to comment on the case.
