The arrested suspect was identified as Suhas Waghmare, who was described as an establishment officer in the NDA by sources in the CBI. The first six arrests had included an officer in the NDA, Colonel Kulbir Singh. The scam involved taking bribes from job seekers, who were promised confirmed appointments in NDA as lower division clerks and Group C employees.u00a0CBI officials said the role of Waghmare in the case had not yet been confirmed and no seizure had been done at his residence, but claimed the arrest was important as they might get crucial links from him.

The NDA in a release yesterday stated: “Preliminary internal inquiry carried out by the NDA authorities revealed that the alleged involvement of the officer, as reported inu00a0the press, is probably an act of ommission/commission of his own (Kulbir Singh). Prima facie, the role of others in his action could not be
established.u00a0“The NDA authorities are committed to fully assist the investigating agencies probing the allegations.”
