Being left behind for another man by his second fiancee was the final nail in the coffin of Ilyas Jamil Shaikh. The 27-year-old committed suicide by consuming paint thinner. His body was found near the railway tracks at Kalyan on Saturday night.

Shaikh has left behind a suicide note, detailing how his fiancée Saima has broken up with him after her mother and a tantrik convinced her to do so through ‘black magic’.

A preliminary probe has revealed that he was depressed as his fiancées left him for other men after getting engaged to him. The Kalyan GRP have registered an accidental death report. Shaikh has also been booked by the Bazarpeth police in an assault case. He was reported absconding days before his suicide. He got engaged to Saima after her sister left Shaikh for another man. Cops were able to identify Shaikh after calling his brother through his mobile phone. “The brother stumbled upon a suicide note in Shaikh’s file at home,” added an officer.
First rejection
Shaikh suffered his first rejection after he got engaged to a relative a few years ago. After a few months, the girl ran away with her boyfriend. “He was depressed, but the girl’s family assured him that it was her fault and got him engaged to her younger sister.” Saima, the girl he got engaged to more than six months ago, ran away and married another man, said a police officer.
Injured two others
Dilip Suryavanshi, Senior PI, Bazarpeth police station said, “We registered a case against Shaikh on Saturday for stabbing a girl 15 days ago. He had also injured two more people. He was absconding. Our officers visited his home thrice but he was not there. We then got to know that he has committed suicide.”

The suicide note
‘I am taking my life with my own hands as I love Saima a lot. She loves me the same too, but her mother and Nanha Baba [a tantric] have put several talismans around her neck that are making her hate me. I also visited the cops regarding this but nobody was ready to listen to me. Everyone is saying they are going to register a case against me and we won’t be able to do anything about it, which is why I am committing this heinous act… My family is in a lot of pain because of me but what can I do? I can’t erase that girl from memory and am taking Saima [his fiancée] with me.”
