Thane: Former nursery teacher arrested for house-break and theft

A 32-year-old woman, who was a teacher with a nursery school in Kalyan, has been arrested by the Mahatma Phule police in Kalyan for house-break and theft. The accused has been identified as Neelima Sobi (32), who does a marketing job.

Sobi was working with a nursery school more than a year ago. Not satisfied with her earnings, she turned to robbery to enjoy a better standard of living.

According to the police, the complainant Poornima Bhoir (39), a social activist based in Kalyan, was busy drying chillies down stairs on Monday. When she returned home after an hour, she found 25 tola gold and Rs 6,000 cash missing. Overall, valuables total worth Rs 6.71 lakh were stolen from her cupboard locker. Poornima soon recollected her friend’s advice, who had warned her that Neelima was earlier arrested by police in theft. "She called Neelima and requested her to return the valuables. But she refused allegations, and said she is not aware about it," said Anil Pawar, Senior Police Inspector, Mahatma Phule police station.

Bhoir, with the help of Sunil Wayale, a Shiv Sena Corporator, then approached the Mahatma Phule police station to register a complaint. “We detained Sobi who, on interrogation, admitted to the crime and return the valuables. She confessed that she made the duplicate keys some two months ago," added Pawar.

Sobi had met Bhoir a few months ago, requesting her to look for a job as she was going through a financial problem. “Getting friendly, she started visiting her residence and got close to the Bhoir family. On one occasion, she made the duplicate keys and later committed the crime. She has a record of three such cases already registered with Mahatma Phule police station, where she was arrested 45 days ago and valuables worth Rs 5 lakh were recovered," added Pawar, who said Bhoir was arrested on Tuesday and will be produce in court today.

The police, during investigation, found that the accused with help of her son, a 12-year-old boy, use to get familiar with other woman coming to school and tuition of her son. “Later, she used to gossip about the school and other problems, used to visit those people’s residence, and keep an eye on the valuables. Then, making a duplicate key, she used to keep the original one at the same place, and make plans to rob stuff," added Pawar.

The Mahatma Phule police have registered a case against Sobi under section 454 and 457 of the Indian Penal Code.
