Thane: Two persons were killed and four others injured when their car rammed into a stationary tempo in the district in the wee hours on Thursday.


The mishap occurred at around 1.30 AM when the car going towards Mumbai from Thane, dashed against the tempo near Anand Nagar check post on Eastern Express Highway, police PRO Gajanan Kabdule said.


Following the accident, the victims were taken to hospital where two of them succumbed to injuries, he said. The deceased were yet to be identified, he said, adding that the injured persons were being treated at different hospitals in the city. The car driver has been arrested, he said.


Offences have been registered under sections 304A (causing death by negligence), 279 (rash driving), 337 and 338 of the IPC, and also section 184 of the Motor Vehicle Act in connection with the incident, police added.
