It's rare to watch a perfectly good eating joint that's fuss-free, serves fresh food priced reasonably, shut shop for reasons other than losses. The property where Tangy Tomato stood on Carter Road's khao galli was doomed it's seen as many as seven ventures start and fade without a trace. But owner-chef Raj was confident that the crowd liked what he was offering, and decided to convert the restaurant into a home-delivery service.
Why call it Big Daddy?, we quiz him on phone. Raj asks you if you remember this tall, well-built bald guy who hung around at Tangy Tomato. "Yes," we say. "That's me. I am the big daddy!" he laughs. Fair enough.

Having spent weekend-after-weekend lapping up Mexican entrees like Bean Cheese Tacos, Jalapeno-Olive Quesadillas at Tangy Tomato already, we asked if there was anything new on the Big Daddy menu. A new variety of Wedges seemed exciting enough for a side order. Pesto Lime Wedges (Rs 75), a 10-inch Spicy Veg Pizza (Rs 160) and a Veg Spinach and Bell Pepper Lasagne (Rs 175) was our final order. Raj pointed out that the pasta sheets in the Lasagne were homemade, and we were sold.
We give our thumbs up to Nachos, Dips, Burrito, Caesar Salad and their Pesto Lime Pasta. Focaccia sandwiches, Calzones, rice meals and desserts are also on the menu.
What's On suggests: On weekends, sound them off at least an hour before you are ready to devour; they are heavily booked Friday through Sunday. Big Daddy has two kitchens in the city Oshiwara (Andheri) and Reclamation (Bandra).
