While bidding may be beyond the reach of many, it shouldn’t stop you from heading to the preview (June 9), which is open to all. Here, you can gaze at priceless works of art that will focus on Goa, Cholamandal and South India. The series will also include antiquities and prints on Tipu Sultan and important artworks from the Tanjore region of Tamil Nadu, and Kerala.
The highlight of the auction will be an oil sketch by European artist Henry Singleton, titled The Assault and Taking of Seringapatam (1800). The artwork was originally from the collection of Lord Wellesley (Duke of Wellington).
A rare Tanjore Company School painting of devotees and the temple car, which is part of the India Office Library Collection in London, will also be a part of the Creative India Series 4. Apart from that there will be artworks by modern masters including FN Souza, KCS Paniker and K Ramanujam as well as contemporary artists such as Riyaz Komu and Shibu Natesan.
