The art of collage uses scraps of paper, preferably printed magazines and newspapers, glued together to create unique works of art. It was taught in schools and now thanks to digital advances, more and more people are experimenting with it.

Collage art by Shakun Chavan-Wilson

This week, Art2Day Gallery is presenting a unique group exhibition on collage art by two artists ufffd Shriram Jog from Indore and Shakun Chavan-Wilson from Pune.

Though there are two artists involved, both have unique styles of painting. "Just as in childhood we used to look for shapes in cloud formations, I have tried to use torn pieces of paper to make various forms. My works are abstract and all my compositions depict human figures," says Jog.u00a0

A working professional with a nationalised bank in Indore, Shriram has been involved in making collages for the last few years. He is also a "self-taught artist and an avid theatre artist" with more than 800 performances to his credit. He has done figurative and abstract collages as well.

On the other hand, Shakun is an applied artist, a pass out from Abhinav Kala and has been working in the advertising and printing domain for the last three decades. Collage has been a hobby for Shakun whose watercolour-like, free-flowing strokes are evident in her approach and execution while working on paper. In this exhibition she presents creations in a realistic style.
