*u00a0Bob Marley aka Robert Nesta Marley was born in Nine Miles, Jamaica, to Norval Marley, a black teenager and Cedella Booker, a Jamaican of English descent. They never got married as Norval left Kingston and died in 1955, seeing his son Bob only once.

*u00a0Bob learnt guitar from Peter Tosh with whom he started a band called Wailers in 1963. Marley later renamed the band as Bob Marley and the Wailers. This was when groundbreaking albums like Natty Dread, Rastaman Vibration were released.

*u00a0Bob survived an assassination attempt, receiving minor injuries in his chest and arm on December 1976. Soon after, Marley left for England, where he lived in self-exile for two years. During this time Exodus was produced, which remained on the British charts for 56 weeks.

*u00a0While living in England between 1976 and 1978, he lived in with Jamaican beauty queen Cindy Tavares-Finson. In fact, his song Turn Your Lights Down Low was written for her. They had a son together, Damian Marley.

*u00a0Apart from being a singer, he also was a passionate footballer.

*u00a0In 1977, Bob consulted a doctor when a wound in his toe would not heal. Tests revealed he was suffering from malignant melanoma. He refused to amputee his toe, due to his Rastafarian beliefs.

*u00a0Marley, started an American tour to reach blacks in the US. He played two shows at Madison Square Garden, but collapsed while jogging in NYC's Central Park on September 21, 1980. The cancer had spread to his brain, lungs, and stomach. Marley died in a Miami hospital on May 11, 1981 at the age of 36.

*u00a0Marley fathered 12 children out of which five where from his wife Rita, and seven where illegitimate children.

*u00a0During the last months of his life, he suffered from very serious seizures.

*u00a0In May 2001, a reputed channel's online users voted Bob as the third greatest lyricist of all time, following Bob Dylan and John Lennon.
