Palace Grounds will resound to Matt Darey's mutli genre music this weekend
Come Sunday and you can catch trance freaks in a complete frenzy. This time around it's not any watering hole playing host. The Nocturnal dance radio shows' DJ Matt Darey will be at the console live at the Palace Grounds.
Dance to trance
Matt says, "It is going to be the biggest electronic dance event in India."
It's Matt's second visit to India, the previous one being in March this year for a small gathering, but rocking nevertheless. He makes sure his sets are varied and colourful. "Music lovers can expect a wide spectrum of styles. There will also be lots of variations and tons of energy. When I play a live dance show, I get very emotional and transfer that vibe into my music," confesses Matt. This time around it will be, 'See the Sun,' a trance track for Bangalore, before it releases next week apart from other hits.
Matt believes in three essential ingredients to make his music and this is what trance music is about too. "Melody, energy and the euphoric atmosphere," he says have been vital in making trance popular all over the world. Matt dabbled into the music industry in 1992, but it was only in 2001 that he began DJing. Trance music was hitting the popularity charts when he hit the scene. He says, "I started very early bringing out a record in 1993, while others started later, so they did get influenced by me." He now plays a mixture of different music and does not stick to one genre. He produces music from the likes of Breaks to house to Trance and even Progressive music.u00a0
Electronic euphoria
Born in Leicester, England, Matt's music influence is directly from his folks. "My dad used to sing opera and all my family members play musical instruments to the highest grade. Except for me, I would rather make Electronic Pop music," he chuckles. He grew up listening to 80s pop music bands like Duran Duran, Human League, U2 along with a mix of Electronic Pop and Rock and was part of a rock band that toured the UK.
His Nocturnal radio show is now broadcast on more than 116 FM stations worldwide. "My listeners are people who like club music, go clubbing or are into night life activities and hence the name Nocturnal."
