Till about fifteen days ago, Ankit Dhar, 30, driving his Mercedes E-Class in the posh Sushant Lok area in Gurgaon was a regular sight. Most people knew him as a stockbroker working with a Forex trading company. Not quite true, as it turns out.

Ankit Dhar alias Alok was one of the biggest pimps in the Capital during 2001 to 2007. However, he quit the flesh trade and went into hiding after getting death threats from some of his rivals. He then made a career change; the Commerce graduate from a reputed Delhi University college, started cheating people by purchasing luxury cars and handing out fake demand drafts.

Dhar was arrested after the police received a tip-off that on March 14 he would be going to Munirka via Safdarjung Enclave in a Tata Safari. Deputy commissioner of police (south) HGS Dhaliwal said that the police were on the lookout for him for quite some time as they had received several complaints against him from the Delhi-NCR region.

His ideal
As a fresh college graduate in 2000, Dhar had met Rajeev Virmani, another famous pimp, at a party.
Dhar got influenced by Virmani and decided to join his business after the latter shared some of his trade secrets. After a period of apprenticeship, Dhar formed his own gang and never looked back.

During his rise, he fell in love with Ritika Thakur alias Rita, one of the Capital's most famous call girls. The two had a live-in relationship, while Ritika ran the flesh trade and managed the girls. By then, Dhar had also left his wife.

Dhar in cuffs
"He was arrested for the first time in 2003. Dhar placed advertisements in newspapers promising masseurs. He also used the Internet to attract customers. In 2005, he was arrested in Sarita Vihar for robbing a client of his valuables and mobile phones by threatening him. He was also arrested four times while operating as a pimp," said a police official.

Dhar confessed to the police that he had left the flesh trade after having enmity with his rivals. He was allegedly involved in the murder of top pimp Sanjay Gupta. It was then that Sanjay's wife Ritika came into

contact with Dhar, police said.

"After Sanjay's murder there was a lot of bad blood. Dhar also shifted base to Noida. He finally gave up the flesh trade around two years ago and began cheating people by presenting fake demand drafts. He changed his residence very often and had moved into his present Mahavir Nagar address only 15 days ago. He had shifted here as his first wife runs a parlour in the area," said a police official.

During the interrogations, Dhar told the police that his father had a computer business and he had picked up some skills while working with him. This was what he put to use while making the fake demand drafts. The police have recovered a Mercedes E-Class, a Honda Civic, a Tata Safari, a Skoda Laura, 10 mobile phones and several computer devices, which were used to prepare the drafts.
