We met the very elegant and thoughtful Raghuvendra Rathore over the weekend and were delighted to learn that besides imprinting his distinct and regal style on the world of fashion, the highly educated and internationally trained scion of the Jodhpur royal family was expanding his oeuvre to include all manner of lifestyle products: from home furnishings to jewelry to software for iPhones!

“After showing at fashion week for many years I found that there were just too many designers and the world of fashion was not going any where, so even though my design house produces garments retailed by my stores at Delhi’s Emporio and Khan market and at the Mumbai Taj, I find immense satisfaction in bringing style and grace into people’s lives in other ways too.”

Incidentally, when we asked Raghuvendra to tell us whose sense of style he admired, he mentioned Saif Ali Khan. “It’s his eye for detailing and his understanding of style,” said the soft-spoken designer. “It comes so naturally to him.”u00a0We like!

Stop Press
>> We have before us the first edition of the much-awaited tribute to designers Abu and Sandeep, a handsomely bound double volume replete with lavish photographs, etchings, sketches and details of their work over the last 25 years.

Amitabh Bachchan

Published by Thames and Hudson with a preface by Nita Ambani and a foreword by Amitabh Bachchan it is one of the most extraordinary tomes we have come across recently, a paean to good taste, over the top opulence and a certain swashbuckling creativity that the designers have come to stand for.

Abu Jani and Sandeep Khosla

No less impressive are the books vital stats: at 4.8 kg, the publication is exactly the amount of kilos some one attempting to look as graceful as the featured models would have to lose to do justice to the duo's repertoire.

NUDE MODEL SEEKS BOYFRIEND
>> Novelist Siddharth Dhanvant Shanghvi sent us a personal ad for Bruschetta, his four-legged companion. And of course, the great wit that he is, it is a classified like no other. Read it at your own risk and tell us if you like the doggy style innuendo. And of course if you happen to have a miniature daschund, or know of one, contact: facebook.com/Shanghvi.)

‘Slender seductress seeks clothing optional companion for long walks and casual sex. Interests: Skinny-dipping, S & M (you wear my leash, then I choke you), belly rubs, biting ugly people. If you feel you’ve been barking up the wrong tree then send me a photograph of your hot, long weiner - and let’s make babies.’

Horizontal diplomacy
>> We spoke to our most delicious muckraker who was giggling into his cups about the email missive sent out by the embittered wife of the diplomat who appears to have extended his expertise into areas that were not exactly part of international protocol-namely the receiving and giving of sexual favors to a bevy of Mumbai beauties, before he was summarily sacked, that is.

We were particularly bemused by the rendering of the hapless woman's choice of words (read out to us of course in the lady's faux European accent by our informant) where she had contrasted important events in the diplomat's official life with what he was really up to on the occasion.

Suffice to say that CCTV cameras are dangerous gadgets to have around when people as important as Mumbai's Queen Bee or reigning party girl are giving you a lesson on the birds and the bees.

A lensman’s tribute
îThe outpour of grief over the late Prabhuda Das Gupta who died tragically of a heart attack over the weekend while he was en route to Bangalore from Alibag has been spilling onto social networking sites and jamming the telephone lines.

Pic/Pablo Bartholomew

From the sadness and disbelief it is apparent that Gupta was a much-loved man and a mentor to a whole generation of photographers and fashionistas.

Legendary photographer Pablo Bartholomew a close friend of the late lensman was overcome with grief while he made his way to attend the funereal held yesterday in Alibag. “MY DEAR DEAR FRIEND PRABUDDHA DAS GUPTA DIED OF A HEART ATTACK IN ALIBAG A FEW HOURS AGO...” he posted, along with this poignant portrait of Dasgupta, his partner Lakshmi and his daughter taken on a beach perhaps very much like the one he must have visited over the weekend before tragedy struck and robbed the world of photography of one of its most brilliant talents. We share it with readers with Pablo’s permission.u00a0
