It's time for your torn shoes and ripped bags to pay a visit to Mr Pronto, a new shoe and bag repairing store in a Malleshwaram mall that promises to fix any wear or tear

You bought a designer pair of shoes worth a bomb and one fine day it tears. More than disappointment, the tension hits you as you feel that now the shoes are completely wasted, and you don't know from where to get them repaired.

But now Mr Pronto, a Chennai based shoe and bag repair clinic at Mantri Mall, Malleshwaram is here to help you. Located in a swanky mall, the shop saves you from standing in the heat while the roadside cobbler mends your shoes and bags.

While explaining why the store is set up in a shopping mall, the managing director and chairman of the company Harish Dhingra says, "A mall is the most convenient place. We can reach out to all kinds of people. You can go in and catch a movie while we repair your stuff. In this way you don't need to wait."

Started in 2003, by an MBA graduate Abhishek Dinghra, who was inspired by a similar shoe service business of a Philippino friend, Mr Pronto offers a range of services to choose from. It repairs all kinds of bags and shoes starting from the price of Rs 30 to Rs 500.

The shoe repairing includes resoling, expansion, orthopedic adjustments, sole pasting and polishing. It also has a unique service of duplicating keys ranging from Rs 50 to Rs 250.

Dhingra while revealing that the name of the shop comes from the Spanish word Pronto, which means fast, says, "We are a technology based service provider as we follow the same process of shoe repairing as any big brand. We treat the shoes with hydraulic paste, which the cobblers never use."

Though Mr Pronto claims that it can nearly duplicate all kinds of keys, we had a different experience. A friend, who got her house keys duplicated for Rs 250, complained that the key did not even fit into the key hole.

So even if the services sound very convenient, we are yet to decide if Mr Pronto is worth ditching our local locksmiths and cobblers for.
