Recently, the makers of Mickey Virus released a promotional video that featured Ranbir Kapoor, Salman Khan, Madhuri Dixit and Anil Kapoor. In the past couple of years, we have seen a number of A-listers promoting films starring newcomers or ones made on tight buadgets. CS does a recap.

The star quotient

Shirin Farhad Ki Toh Nikal Padi (2012)
Shah Rukh Khan and Shirish Kunder’s fight at the start of 2012 grabbed headlines all over. After both parties called it truce, SRK was seen at the music and third poster launch of Farah Khan’s acting debut, Shirin Farhad Ki Toh Nikal Padi. The actor did a jig on stage and showered praises on Farah and Boman Irani. It was not surprising since SRK and Farah have been friends since years. The star’s presence at the event was also a sign that he had patched up with his Devdas director, Sanjay Leela Bhansali who was the co-producer of the film. Bhansali’s sister, Bela made her directorial debut with this film. It seems that SRK made peace in more ways than one with this act.

Main Krishna Hoon (2013)
This Juhi Chawla and Rajneesh Duggal film directed by Rajeev S Ruia got its share of attention when Katrina Kaif was seen promoting the film during a special screening for children. Kat pitched it with her time because the film was co-produced by her hairstylist Promila Hunter. She not only put in a cameo performance but also helped the makers rope in Hrithik Roshan for a special role. It was reported that these two biggies did not even read the script before agreeing for their parts.

Kai Po Che (2013)
Superstar Hrithik Roshan launched the trailer of Abhishek Kapoor’s Kai Po Che. The actor who is good friends with Abhishek had seen the film much before it’s premiere, and went around town saying good things about the film. He reportedly said, “I really hope that this film does well because such films should do well. It is a wonderfully performed film by all the actors. The performances are such that they touch your heart.” Seeing the success of Kai Po Che, one can say that Hrithik’s good wishes did not go in vain.

Ganga Devi (2012)
Amitabh Bachchan has shown his love for his makeup man, Deepak Sawant by acting in all his Bhojpuri films — Ganga, Gangotri and Ganga Devi. The actor who worked free of cost in Ganga Devi was also seen at the film’s events with lead actor, Dinesh Lal Yadav (Nirahuaa). According to Big B, regional films and their makers need all support from B-Town stars like him. Talking about working free of cost, he reportedly said, “I work for him and never charge... it’s not a monetary matter for me… his contribution is greater than my fee.”

Shahid (2013)
Filmmaker Hansal Mehta was thrilled when actor Aamir Khan decided to promote his biopic, Shahid starring Raj Kumar. Aamir posted the trailer of the film on his Facebook page. This was not the first time that Aamir went out to support a small film. He hosted a gala screening for Anand Gandhi’s Ship of Theseus as well, which was presented by his wife KiranRao.

Bittoo Boss (2012)
When Salman Khan arranged a special screening for Pulkit Samrat’s Bittoo Boss, people wondered why the Dabangg star was going all out for a newcomer’s debut film. Khan arranged a screening that was attended by the likes of Prabhudeva, Sooraj Barjatya, Boney Kapoor and Sajid Nadiadwala. He launched the film’s music as well. It was revealed later that Pulkit’s fiancée, Shradha Rohira is Salman’s rakhi sister. The moment he came to know that Pulkit was Shradha’s fiancé, he decided to take the boy under his wings.
