'The tantrik lured me home with toys and then raped me'

Excerpts from the harrowing transcript of the FIRu00a0with the Mira Road police filed by accused Kishore Chauhan's elder daughter on March 18

I know the tantrik since the age of five. He used to stay in an apartment close to Cooper Hospital and often visited our house. One day, when I was 11, the tantrik came home and asked me to accompany him to his house. He said he would give me toys to play. My mother told me not to disobey his instructions.

As I played with the toys in his house, the tantrik came to me and forcibly removed my clothes and raped me. A few hours later, he dropped me home. I narrated the incident to my mother, who told me that the tantrik did what he didu00a0 for the well-being of our family. My mother warned me against discussing the incident with anyone. In July 2000, we moved from Santacruz to our new house in Mira Road (E).

It was in October 2000, that my father told me that the tantrik had instructed him to have a physical relationship with me as it would benefit everybody. I bluntly refused to do so. My father frightened me by saying I was responsible for ruining the entire family.

He compelled me to have sex with him until February 2009. I did not narrate the incident to anybody, as it was happening with my mother's consent. During this period, my mother escorted me to the tantrik's house thrice and my father six times, where they forced me to have sex with him. Subsequently, I gathered courage to tell my parents I would not go to the tantrik any more.

However, on November 1, 2008, my mother took my younger sister to the tantrik, as advised by my father. My sister narrated the fact and the happenings at the tantrik's house on November 2, 2008. The tantrik asked my sister to undress, but she refused. My mother threatened her stating that if she did not obey the tantrik's instructions, he would forcibly undress her and asked her to go to the kitchen and undress.

She had just undressed, when she was shocked to notice that her mother as well as the tantrik were naked. The tantrik chanted prayers before forcing himself on her. After this incident, we gathered courage and confided in our uncles in Santacruz They supported us and we finally decided to register a police complaint.
(The uncle and both the girls are at an undisclosed location, said police sources.)

No scientific evidence to nail accused: Cops
The police probing the Mira Road rape case say they have no scientific evidence to nail the three accused, the Chauhans and the tantrik. The medical examination of the victims conducted at Thane Civil Hospital did not prima facie reveal any fresh injuries on the victims.

The police are now awaiting swab test reports from the forensics laboratory in Kalina. Fresh blood samples have been collected to rule out HIV. A senior police officer said they were relying on the victims' complaint and are in the process of collecting circumstantial evidence to establish the case.

Advocate Edgar Braganza, appearing for the accused have rubbished the allegations levied against his clients. Despite being warned by many local residents of Mira Road and political leaders from Thane not to take up the case, Braganza is determined to fight for the accused.

According to him, the police have arrested his clients in haste, as they did not wait for the medical reports before registering the rape charges. He said the police should have ideally taken the victims for medical tests either the same day or the day after receiving the complaint (March 18). The victims were taken for examination three days later.

Key questions police want remain answered
The accused, who are in custody of the Mira Road police station till March 26, have not been cooperating with the police. Here's what the police have to deal with:
>>u00a0The three accused, who are known to each other, are not cooperating with the investigators and are giving vague replies
>> The tantrik is a heart patient and his son has provided him tablets, while the victims' mother has arthritis
>> The accused had developed a physical relationship with the older victim for the last nine years. The police have to probe the role of any other person involved in the crime
>> Whether the tantrik cheated and duped any other families in a similar fashion.
>> The police also want to carry out a thorough search of the tantrik's house along with house of the victims, for evidence, if any
- To confirm the locations where the accused took the victims and sexually assaulted them
- To verify if the accused had any links with gangs, who sexually exploit women
