Here's your chance to have a date with the bard as you watch staged Shakespeare classics on screen all the way from Broadway and their cinematic interpretations

This oneu00a0 is for serious addicts of the classic playwright's works. The bard might have left us 400 years ago, but he is still the most revered when it comes to literary classics.

Packaged as a film festival, Shakespeare Told and Retold brings the legend of William Shakespeare alive on a modest screen.

Planned over a series of weekends through September 18, this is a spectacle meant for both film and theatre enthusiasts.

Brought together by the National Gallery of Modern Art (NGMA), Bangalore Film Society (BFS) and the British Council, the line-up includes well-respected and celebrated films based on Shakespeare classics from across the world. "The entire film festival was put together in a period of 20 days," says Siddharth P, organiser, BFS.

"The film festival is unique as it follows a pattern with rare collections of recorded staged versions of Shakespeare plays from Broadway followed by a cinematic version of the same classic.

The films selected to be played after the plays are from across countries and cinematic interpretations," Siddharth adds.

Shakespeare Told and Retold has screened three pairs of play and film versions and has four more in line.

"We have had numerous Shakespeare enthusiasts, even a few good days when the theatre went packed," Siddharth tells us.

Watch out for cult cinematic interpretations of award winning filmmakers like Orson Welles and Finnish director Aki Kaurismaki.
