Gogola mobile gola stall uses ice made from mineral water, fruit flavours and creative branding

For an American walking around Bandra to Andheri, this mobile gola stall's name indicate an infringement of copyright. Written in the same font and style as online conglomerate, Google India TM, Gogola Indian TM has managed to resurrect the forgotten summer treat. Just spot a white Omni parked outside strategic areas like Linking Road, Carter Road or outside schools, selling colourful golas from the window. While one man sits inside the car crushing, moulding and sticking it up a sturdy green plastic stick (not like the flimsy wooden ones you find at gola stalls on Juhu beach), another one outside tells you why the Superstar Kala Khatta is your best bet.
Claims on placards hung on the car insinuate why this gola, priced at Rs 30, is well worth your money made with mineral water ice, flavoured with 100% natural fruit flavours. The "Gogola" sticker on the glass, their very own dustbin, foil-wrapped takeaway packaging, and a sign that warns you about crushing the plastic glass before throwing it away to avoid reuse, speak for the guys behind this venture, who take their job seriously. And, of course all this helps in clearing up the de-glam perceptions associated with the roadside gola.

Peru Sheru or Bas Just Khus? The eccentricity of Gogola doesn't end with its name. The menu is full of Bambaiya and filmy names. We tried the Superstar Kala Khatta, Moulin Roze and Krazy Kairi Ri. You can pick from 7-odd flavours, ranging from peach, orange to Blue Lagoon. Topped with chatpata masala, all three were refreshing. As we checked whether we had purple, green and red tongues, our clear lips and mouths reassured us that we wouldn't be bedridden the next morning.

At: Bandra: Carter Road and near National College, Linking Road; Vile Parle: Station Road, opposite McDonald's; Andheri: Fun Republic and Lokhandwala; and Vashi: Inorbit Mall. Gogola also takes catering orders and can whip up cocktail golas for parties. Log onto: www.gogolaindia.com
