Unidentified persons stole the credit card details of a city based techie, and purchased valuables worth Rs 93,737 in various shops and shopping malls in Italy sometime after July, last year.

The complainant, Nitin Vasant Shimpi (42), a resident of Baner, lodged a complaint in this regard with the Deccan Gymkhana police station on Saturday.

Sub Inspector R D Patil said that Shimpi works as a manager in a private software firm in the city.

"We suspect that the Axis bank credit card's verification value was duplicated with the help of stolen details.

The duplicate card was used for the purchases. The original card is with Shimpi," he said.

Patil said that it was after Shimpi received an SMS stating that he had used the credit card to purchases worth
Rs 93,737 that he learned of the theft.

"Shimpi went to the bank, inquiring about the purchases. He was informed that his credit card had been used in Italy to make various purchases," Patil added.
