In the first case, the police arrested a biscuit company supervisor for allegedly molesting a 38-year-old deaf and mute woman in a factory. In another incident, a BJP ward president was arrested by the Malabar Hill police for having demanded sexual favours from a woman. A labour contractor was also arrested for sending lewd SMSes to a 22-year-old woman.

Case I
The Bhandup police have arrested Chandrashekhar Revasiddhi Bane, a supervisor with the Shangrila Biscuits Factory at LBS Marg in Bhandup (West). Bane and the 38-year-old victim, who has speech and hearing disabilities, used to work on the same machine in the factory.

“As usual, the victim completed her work on Saturday, when Bane started touching her inappropriately. One of her female co-workers saw what was going on and immediately approached her. Both of them then approached us,” said Assistant Police Commissioner Mahadeo Gundewadi, Bhandup division.

The police registered a case under Section 354 of the IPC for molestation and immediately arrested Bane. He was produced at the Bhoiwada court on Sunday, which granted him bail. “Bane took advantage of the victim’s helplessness and thought that she wouldn’t be able to complain to anyone. But an alert co-worker realised what was happening and complained about the incident to the management and then to us,” said Gundewadi.

Case II
A BJP ward president was arrested from South Mumbai for allegedly demanding sexual favours from a fisherwoman. The Malabar Hill police arrested Mohan Naryan Prasad Seni alias Pappi Seni, BJP president of ward number 214. The victim sells fish in the Banganga area of Malabar Hill.

It all started a month ago when the Seni complained to the BMC that the woman’s fish stall was illegal and had them evict her. When she approached Seni to iron out the matter, he promised to withdraw his complaint on the condition that she have sex with him. Feeling helpless, she complied.

The woman was recently embroiled in an argument with her neighbour, and the matter went to the Malabar Hill police. Just outside the police station, she met Seni. Seni then told her husband that he had had an affair with his wife. “Later the fisherwoman approached a local BJP corporator from the area and narrated the entire incident to her, who called Seni to his house. Here, Seni accosted the victim alone and proposed that they resume their liaison. Frustrated, she confided in her husband, and the two approached the Malabar Hill police,” said an officer. Seni was arrested on Saturday night under Section 509 (insult to modesty of a woman) of the IPC. He was produced in court yesterday, where he was granted bail of Rs 15,000.

Case III
The Dongri police arrested a labour contractor for allegedly sending lewd SMSes and making lewd remarks to a 22-year-old-woman who works with a beautician in Dongri. Chetan Baljhibhai Ladwa, a resident of Charkop, Kandivli, had been sending lewd SMSes and making crude remarks to the woman since September. The woman finally mustered the courage to complain to the Dongri police, after which the police registered an FIR and made the arrest.

“We have arrested the accused and he will be produced in court on Monday,” said Vijay Mukhane, senior police inspector of Dongri police station.u00a0
