Fifth-seed Thulasi, the 2010 edition champion here, won the marathon encounter that lasted an hour and 11 minutes to enter her first final of the year.

The Kerala shuttler showed tremendous resilience and matched Tang’s array of strokes throughout the thrilling match. Trailing 0-2 in the first game, Thulasi levelled scores at 8-8. Tang however, clawed back and surged to 18-13 and eventually win the game 21-18.

In the second game too Thulasi was trailing 1-8, before she fought back to 9-8. The duo traded points thereafter and Thulasi went on to take Game Two 21-14.

In the decider Thulasi began poorly again, going down 0-2 before making a comeback to lead 11-10 at the break. After the breather, Thulasi widened the gap and moved to 17-15. Tang however, came back to make it 20-20, but it was the 21-year-old Indian, who kept her cool and emerged victorious.

Thulasi will take on Febby Angguni of Indonesia in the final today. Angguni comfortably beat Kim Hyo Min of Korea 21-10, 21-18 in the day’s second semi-final.

Thulasi is hopeful of ending the year on a high. “I have played some good matches this year, but haven’t had great results. This is the first final and I hope to win it and end the year on a high. I could have lost this match, had I lost focus when I was trailing 1-8. Having defeated Angguni in 2010, I hope to do well against her in the final,” she said.
