Time to jam
Shruti Pathak managed to grab the attention of Bollywood with her song Mar Jawa from Fashion. The lady is back in the news for her latest song Criminal, which has her crooning with Akon. Shruti talks to CS about her Akon experience:
On a high
It's a great feeling to sing with a rap sensation like Akon. He's one of the most popular international artists of modern times. And being a part of a song with him is a superb feeling. I love different kinds of music -- be it Indian classical, Carnatic, ghazals, jazz, rock or pop -- every genre has its own style and vibe. There is a lot to explore in international music too. They have some brilliant musicians out there. And I totally follow them. I love Sting, Beyonce, Coldplay, Corrs, John Mayor, Christina Aguilera, Beatles, etc. They all are unique in their own way.
Yes, there's a lot of international influence in our Bollywood melodies, but I don't think that Indian music has died a premature death. For instance, Munni Badnaam Hui, is a folksy number, and it was the song of last year.
I love singing for Kareena. My current favourite is Priyanka Chopra for whom I have sung in Fashion and Anjaana Anjaani. I would love to sing for Deepika Padukone as well, she's so gorgeous.
