An Italian in Mumbai
January
The Symphony Orchestra of India, which completed 10 years in 2016, has brought and performed several international masterpieces to Mumbai. Keeping up with the tradition, the 2017 season of the SOI will begin in January with a concert conducted by the highly acclaimed and sought-after conductor, Carlo Rizzi.

While it’s a treat to watch Zakir Hussain create magic with the tabla, it is equally fascinating to watch him in seamless jugalbandi with other musicians of different genres as well. In a concert in February, watch the maestro perform with Avishai Cohen, a New York-based creative jazz trumpet player hailing from Israel, and Sanjay Divecha, a guitarist and composer. Abhinav Khokhar, a young acoustic guitar player, will join them too.

In a state of trance
January
There’s a big party coming to town. David Guetta will be in India for a four-city tour in January, 2017. That includes a Mumbai stop as well. Get, set, trance!

A sound act
December
Acclaimed dance legend Astad Deboo will premiere his new production Silence is Golden. Deboo will collaborate with deaf performers for this piece. The act will debut in Bengaluru and will be followed by a Mumbai show.

Jazz it up with Quinn
February
The annual Blues festival at Bandra’s Mehboob Studios will bring down Quinn Sullivan this time. The 17-year-old started playing the guitar at the age of three. At the age of six, he sang and played Twist and Shout (The Beatles) on television. Buddy Guy spotted his talent, and took him under his wings.

Will it be a reality?
June
According to an Instagram conversation between John Myung (bassist) and a fan, heavyweight Rock outfit Dream Theater will shortly announce their Asia tour dates. India is likely to be in the list, thanks to a growing number of Indian fans of the band. Let’s hope Mumbai is on their radar.
