Work on north-bound carriageway will not lead to as many traffic jams as seen during the south-bound phase,  claims MMRDA

Traffic won't be so bad during Kherwadi flyover work: MMRDA

Remember the two-km long traffic snarls during the construction of south-bound lanes on the Kherwadi flyover in June? Fret not. It is likely that you won't have to face such a situation again when work on the north-bound three-lane carriageway begins in August end.

The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) is confident that the traffic will be better managed, thanks to the newly constructed south-bound lanes of the flyover in June. One lane from the three south-bound lanes will be allocated for north-bound traffic in the evenings.

Divide and plan
When MMRDA first submitted the plan for the construction of the north-bound carriageway two weeks ago, the traffic police suggested a few changes, such as placing boulders to divide the three lanes to manage the north and south-bound traffic situation better. MMRDA Commissioner, UPS Madan, said, “The north-bound traffic will be diverted to one lane of the south-bound carriageway.

We have started the installation of the plastic boulders which will divide the three-lane flyover into two and one lane. In the morning, all lanes will be reserved for south-bound traffic, while one lane will be reserved for north-bound traffic in the evenings,” said a senior MMRDA official. The MMRDA is yet to send the revised plan to the traffic department.
