The curtain came down on a hotly contested Pune racing season 2012 on Sunday, but not before a nail-biting finish was witnessed for the professional championships for jockeys & trainers.

Finally, trainer Dallas Todywalla was crowned as the new champion after he established an unassailable three-point lead over Narendra Lagad by mid-afternoon.

The jockeys' title however went unto the wire when A Sandesh, lagging only one point behind Dashrath Singh with only the last race to go, steered popular choice Mon Ami to a spectacular victory, and thus tied for the top spot.

"It is nice to win the championship," Todywalla, a former 14-time champion who had a dry spell for several years before regaining the title yesterday, said after the interveiw, "but it's not an end in itself. What's more satisfying is my owners gave me good horses and I could do justice to them."

Dr MAM Ramaswamy was adjudged leading horse owner, and the Poonawalla stud farm emerged as champion breeders. Tushar Nemane was declared champion apprentice rider, while Shrikant Kamble picked up the title of champion jockey with allowance.u00a0
