Cake Tree stays open till midnight, only stocks goodies made the same dayu00a0you won't find a day-old item hereu00a0 and uses exotic ingredients creatively.

Blueberry played peek-a-boo with rich chocolate in our Choco Mischief pastry, taking us straight to choco-fruity heaven. For those who can't make up their mind between berries and chocolate, there is also Berried Chocolate, a deadly combo of chocolate and strawberries.

Cake Tree belongs to new-age culinary entrepreneurs who are using their creativity and oven inventiveness, exotic ingredients and a small personal army to make the city a sweeter place.

All the goodies at the Kandivali outlet (a first for a planned cake chain) come from a central kitchen, where all the cakes, including photo cakes, wedding, liqueur and unusually shaped cakes made, and then transported here.

So if you want something special like the sinful Kahlua High for a friend's birthday, or the Black Forest's cousin White Forest for a wedding anniversary, then you'll have to order in advance.

Although, they can be refrigerated and eaten at a time, the cakes are best consumed fresh. We doubt that will be a problem, though.

Liqueur cake Cointreau Kick was so alive, we were ready for a spoon fight to grab the last bite. Bailey's Stylish Irish blended Bailey's with rich cream and chocolate perfectly in a moist offering.

Pastries are priced from Rs 49 to Rs 89, while large cakes cost anywhere between Rs 450 to Rs 900.
Except for a few sandwiches and rolls, there wasn't much in the way of food.

But the guys assured us that muffins, brownbread sandwiches, rolls, bar cakes, twists and cookies are on
the agenda.
