The incident took place in the wee hours of Monday morning near Deokar Garage in Mangalwar Peth. The arrested trio were identified as Ganesh Nagesh Kalkutkar, Somnath Dadu Sakat and Kiran Raju Khawle. All three were residents of the Uppar Indira Nagar. Officials said the three were consuming alcohol at 12.30 am near the garage.

Police Inspector G V Nikam of the Samarth police station said, “The deceased was passing through the area at the same time. When he saw the trio consuming alcohol, he approached them and requested for a glass of water. But one of them abused him and asked him to leave the spot.”

He said this irked the victim and he abused the trio. Angered by his retaliation, they manhandled him and bludgeoned him to death before they fled the spot. An eyewitness, who works in the area, informed the police about the incident.

“The witness had seen Kalkutkar in the area earlier and knew where he resided. Based on this information, our police personnel raided his house and arrested him. During interrogation he revealed the names of the other two,” Nikam said.u00a0
