After a decade singer Abhijeet is back to make you walk down memory lane with some unforgettable Hindi film songs. The Guide caught the singer much before his arrival in town

Abhijeet believes that the 90s gifted Bollywood some great music that appeals to any audience. The singer, who will be performing this Saturday at Spotlight, a concert that aims to relive all those songs we have grown up listening to, shares with The Guide what makes the bygone era special.

What is in store for Bangalore?
It will be a quality show. The Bangalore audience is educated and as important as my audience in Bengal. My fans know me for Bollywoodu00a0 music. I will sing hits from the 60s, 70s and 90s that will include Chalte Chalte, Main Hoon Na and several songs of Kishore Kumar and Hemant Kumar.

What makes the 90s songs relevant for today's audience?
The music created in that period is evergreen. The songs are melodious and enjoyable to everyone fromu00a0 15 to 50-year-olds even today.

Romantic songs in Bollywood today are different from what it used to be in the 90s. Do you like the change?
Don't call these songs music. There is no creativity and anybody can make music now by downloading tunes from the internet.u00a0 It is almost like buying readymade dal. Now the music is not good or bad as it is not music anymore.

From Kanpur to Mumbai , how has the journey been?
My journey is still on. I have always competed with myself. My past is my future.

What would you say was the turning point in your career?
It took me three years to meet RD Burman and make him hear my voice. But once he did, I got my big break in 1984 in Anand aur Anand starring Dev Anand's son. But the film flopped. The next big break happened with Baagi and then I never looked back.

Which actors do your voice suitu00a0 the most?
I have no personal favourites. I have been the voice for Shah Rukh Khan for really long. Songs like Wada Raha for Akshay Kumar, Ole Ole for Saif Ali Khan and songs from Dhadkan for Sunil Shetty became really popular.

Kishore Kumar

Any advice for upcoming singers?
If you still want to learn then stick to good music. Listen to songs from the 60s and 70s.
