The hotel owner Jaimallar Lakhe, whose own son died in the refrigerator, repents keeping the refrigerator outside his hotel in the first place it was old and out of order.

According to Sanjay Inamke, a friend of Lakhe, five children were playing when they could not trace their two friends Rishekesh Jaimallar Lathe and Shah Rukh Abdul Khan. The two boys were neighbours. When Rishekesh and Shah Rukh did not turn up for a while, their parents began to panic. After making inquiries with the other children, they scanned the Jejuri fort temple. The boys had been missing since 11.30 am on Friday.

Upon hearing the news, villagers gathered at Lakhe's and his neighbour Abdul Khan's (Shah Rukh's father) house. Later in the night, one of these villagers happened to lift the lid of the refrigerator in the vicinity and to his shock found the two kids huddled together lying lifeless.

They were taken to the hospital, where they were pronounced dead. A post mortem conducted at Sasoon Hospital indicated that they had died of suffocation. There were, however, no external injuries on their bodies.

"I dread to imagine how the two kids might have struggled before dying inside," said Rishekesh's father Jaimallar.

"My wife is also shattered. We have a lost a lovely son," he added.

Jaimallar has two more children: a boy and a girl and his neighbour Abdul Khan has another young daughter. The last rites of the two children were performed on Saturday; a case of accidental death has been registered in the Jejuri police station.

PSI of the station Balasaheb Kandobaheri said on first appearance it clearly seems to be a case of accidental death, but the case will be probed from all angles.
