Via another such tip-off on October 16, police came to know that firecrackers were illegally stored in a godown at A-Block, Vidhya Vihar, Uttam Nagar as well. The premises were raided and 1,530 kg firecrackers were seized.

"Cases under appropriate sections were registered and the accused were identified as Prashant Khandelwal (27) and Kapil Tyagi (32). During interrogation, Khandelwal said he runs a hosiery shop at Sarai Rohilla while Tyagi runs a stationery shop at Uttam Nagar," said Ashok Chand, DCP, Crime and Railways.

He said, "Both said they earned a good profit by sale of firecrackers earlier also." Firecrackers are highly combustible and a major fire hazard. With just a few days left for Diwali, many more such cases of illegal storage are expected to come to light.
