Traffic eagle eye had captured errant driver breaking rule through dashcam of his car
Venkata Satish Guttia
Nearly two months after a Navi Mumbai resident captured a BEST driver jumping the signal in Chembur through the dashboard camera of his car, authorities have finally decided to take action against the errant staff.
In September, Navi Mumbai resident Venkata Satish Guttia had submitted all evidence related to the traffic violation to the BEST Undertaking. Despite that, Guttia alleged that he was forced to appear for an inquiry.
However, after mid-day reported about the case, officials decided to take immediate action. "We have investigated the matter and a departmental inquiry was conducted against the erring staff member. During the course of our inquiry, necessary action was initiated against the staff concerned. We have also given instructions to all our staff to follow rules and regulations," said Naresh Vichare, depot manager, Deonar depot.
He added, "We regularly conduct counselling sessions with the drivers so that such incidents are not repeated."
Guttia was also sent a mail, informing that action had been taken against the driver. "Drivers are often seen driving rashly. They should be counselled daily because handling public transport is a huge responsibility. It is good that action is being taken against the driver. However, the BEST has not revealed how he is going to be penalised,” he said.
Guttia, who works as the director of cyber security at a private firm, said that he would continue recording traffic violators on his dashcam. He first fitted a camera in his Maruti SX4 car in December 2014 to deter motorists from breaking traffic rules and report violators to the authorities concerned.
