Former India bowler Balwinder Singh Sandhu does not believe a longer tournament will help. "I think any tournament which goes on for more than four to five weeks loses its charm. Maybe, they can do away with the home and away matches to shorten the tournament," said the 1983 World Cupper.
Sandhu's teammate Anshuman Gaekwad, the former India player and coach, reckoned an extended IPL will be beneficial to the domestic players.
The international stars won't be helped by the additional workload though. "It depends on whether you are looking at quality or quantity. For quantity, you have to make a little compromise on quality," he said.u00a0
The ongoing edition of the T20 extravaganza has witnessed several injuries and the tournament has not yet reached its half-way stage.
The injury factor could come to fore in a bigger way next year with two additional teams. "Injuries are bound to happen, because it (T20 cricket) is a high-intensity game. But they also have a lot of players sitting at the bench.
It is up to the teams to decide and rotate the players wisely," said Sandhu Gaekwad felt destiny had a lot to do with the injury aspect. "You can rest for a year and get injured on your first day of action, so it's destiny," he said.
