Two students shot dead in Meerut
Two students were shot dead by unidentified assailants at a petrol pump in Meerut.
Two students were shot dead by unidentified attackers riding a bike at a petrol pump in Meerut, 450 km from here, Monday night, police said.
Police said the reason behind the killings could be an enmity arising out of a failed love affair.
The shot students have been identified as Rahul and Shivam.
Senior Superintendent of Police K Satyanarayan said that the duo were asked on the phone to come to the petrol pump in Saket.
They reached there in a car and the attackers followed them on a motorbike. There, the two groups had a brief altercation and the men on bike opened fire at the students.
As heavy gunfire started at the pump, chaos followed and the staff ran for safety, said police.
Police reached the spot and took the students to a hospital where they were pronounced dead.
Police said the two boys were shot several times. One of those killed studied in Meerut while the other was from Ambedkarnagar, they said.
Police are trying to trace the call details of the deceased. The shooting took place in the city's Civil Lines area.
