Umar Akmal fined for ignoring umpires

Umar Akmal was fined 50 per cent of his match fee for snubbing both umpires when he decided it was time to change his batting gloves in Pakistan's World Twenty20 semi-final defeat against Sri Lanka.

Umar admitted a level two breach of the International Cricket Council code at the Premadasa Stadium on Thursday — for “conduct contrary to the spirit of the game”.

He changed his gloves in the 17th over having ignored umpires Rod Tucker and Simon Taufel’s request not to do so at that stage.


ICC match referee Jeff Crowe said: “Respect for the umpires is integral and is something we always emphasise and encourage.”
